| The
overwhelming success of the 1st International
WASH Practitioner’s Market place and Knowledge
Fair held in Mombasa, Kenya last September,
2007 has promped STREAMS to hold the 2nd
International WASH Practitioner’s Market
place and Fair on November 11-13, 2008
Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
Background:
The
Streams of knowledge, a global coalition
of water and sanitation resource centers
engaged in capacity development in the
area of water, sanitation and hygiene
(WASH) together with its member, the NGO
Forum for Drinking water supply and sanitation,
a leading WATSAN apex organization based
in Bangladesh will be the organizers of
the 2nd International WASH practitioners’
Market please and fair. The organization
of the event is being coordinated with
the Ministry of Local Government of Bangladesh,
the National Sanitation Task Force and
local partners such as the WSSCC, ITN,
BWP, BRAC, WaterAid and other WATSAN bodies.
The 2nd
International WASH Practitioner’s Market
place and Fair aims to bring together
some 250 participants from resource centers
(RC) and similar organization, donors,
service providers, small scale providers,
privet sector and other WASH stakeholders
in a forum where WASH knowledge, experiences,
expertise and knowledge products and services
good practices can be presented and shared.
The approach is to further strengthen
South-South exchange among WASH communities
of practice. |
|
Rationale:
It
is evident that there is a broad range
of initiatives being undertaken by different
practice, whether it is government, private
sector or civil society in the area of
water supply, sanitation and hygiene.
Thus, there is an abundance of knowledge,
experiences, expertise, products and services
waiting to be shared and made accessible
to the practitioners. As the global community
get to learn good practices, innovations
and adaptations are made to tailor fitcertain
approaches into local contexts.
Cognizant
of the number of successful initiatives
by resource centre, civil socity, government
and academe and other private organizations
at the global, regional and national leaves,
there is still a need to bring together
these institutions and facilated the sharing
of profisonal experience cuttingedge technologies
and approaches in a more systematic way
to further enhance sanitations, hygieane
and water, programmes. There is a need
to reainforce local actions being done
(mostly on pilot basis) and help each
other disseminate learnings and experiences
to help practitioners scale up efforts
in WASH. |
