Introduction:
The ‘Community-managed Water And Sanitation Programme in Chittagong Hill Tracts’ has been developed to contribute in the country’s WatSan promotion in line with the Millennium Development Goals, and the world Summit on Sustainable Development goals. The project has been under implementation in 72 selected villages under the districts of Bandarban, Khagrachari and Rangamati. This EU-CAFOD supported project implementation has been started in July 2004 and will be continued up to June 2007. The project implementation is facilitated by NGO Forum in collaboration with local partner NGOs and the community through the establishment of village development groups.

Project Goal:
To reduce the incidence of water-borne diseases in the target communities, thereby contributing to an improvement in the public health conditions of the rural poor in the CHT.
Project Objective:
The objective of the project is to support the development of sustainable community-managed and community-owned water and sanitation programmes and strengthen the capacity of staff of local NGOs and members of community groups in order to provide and maintain safe water supply and sanitation facilities and encourage behavioural change in hygiene practices in the underserved rural areas of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Major Activities:
■ Capacitate the PNGO staff and community people by providing different types of training
■ Formation of village development committee
■ Development of IEC/BCC materials for hygiene promotion activities
■ Community mobilization by conducting different types of the promotional activities
■ Installation of different types of water supply technologies
■ Installation of village sanitation centres
■ Installation of hygienic latrines
